Happy Hanukat!

Princess Treasure was very excited!  Hanukah is her favorite holiday!  When she was about 6 years old, the Prime Minister lit a menorah for the first time and Princess Treasure was able to show the PM how much she loved the candlelight and blessings.

'Menorah' is a Hebrew name among humans for the seven-branched candleabra used in the Temple.  The ones used for Hanukah are called 'hanukiah' (singular) or 'hanukiot' (plural).  However, the Royal Menorah is a Hanukat:

In real life it is purple with a pink polka-dotted bowtie.

Messengers had been sent out earlier to all friends and allies of the Realm; accompanying the invitations were the initial batch of contraptions that can connect to either an ess or a tunnel.  Her invitations went out later than she expected, so she hoped that some kitties who may not otherwise be able to come would utilize the contraption so they can leave their holographic image and not worry their humans.

Princess Treasure had prepared a special menu of delightful tidbits with the help of the chef:  Mouse sausage biscuits with green pea gravy, pickled hummingbird tongues, sauted filet of minnows were all carefully being plated at this moment.  With catnip tea and whipped cream for dessert, she hoped her guests would be content.

Princess Coco the Most Adorable arrived the day before in order to help decorate.  She had prepared Stars of David woven from dried catmint and hung a garland of them around the archway between the living room and kitchen.  Quartermaster Scruffy helped by driving in the nails needed.

Ringo had helped make little gifts for everyone and was certain he had hit on a winner.  More of that later.

General Boopsie Bear had a big responsibility.  He had to accompany his cousin Hannah the Hannukah Bear from Israel to the Realm.  Hannah is an essential part of any animal's Hannukah celebration and arrangements had been made for her personal appearance months earlier.

The PM had set up all the menorahs in the Castle so that any kitty who may want a chance to light a menorah could.  She also ensured there were enough candles available as each menorah needs 9 candles on the last night.  There is one candle for each night and a helper candle, called a shamash, who lights the others.  That can add up to a lot of candles!

Sunset had arrived and three stars were present in the sky.  Before the celebration could begin, all members of the household gathered for havdalah to usher out the Shabbat Queen.  Only then could any other candles be lit.

Swoosh, zing!  Kitties started arriving!  First was Sir  Simba and Lady Audrey, each looking festive in blue sequined sashes.  After the obligatory curtsey to the Princesses, they trotted off to inspect the Hannukat.  Sir Spitfire  soon zipped up in his Furrari, dashing and daredevilish as ever in his red knight accoutrement.  Daisy arrived wearing a kippah (yarmulke) embroidered with candles and Harley wore a silver collar that reflected all the colors around him.  Mario arrived in his customary bowtie and Dante was bundled up in his deer costume...he needed the warmth, coming from way up north of the Realm.  Countess Katie Isabella was resplendent in emerald green.

At the same time, the rest of the castle household was gathering to welcome the arrivals.  Quartermaster Scruffy took coats while the PM offered catnip tea. Ringo gathered everyone in the living room in time for Mario to sing 'I have a little driedl'.

Suddenly all the light were extinguished and a gasp was heard!  Several suspenseful seconds later, the General arrived, cousin Hannah on his arm.  Hannah carried the 'master shamash', lit in Israel.  This is very important, as animals do not have opposable thumbs and cannot light a match in one hand to start a candle burning in the other.  However, they can hold one candle between their paws and light it from the master.  Each cat approached with their own shamash and as each was lit, they lined up before their chosen menorah.

Princess Coco then led the assembly in the traditional blessings.  Each cat lifted its candle and lit the 8 candles on their menorah.  Everyone stepped back for a few minutes, watching the warm glow of the gathered menorahs, an entrancing sight.

After everyone had passed through the buffet, and appetites were satisfied, Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo presented the gifts of catnip wine he had made earlier in the year.  This clever gentleman actually found little cat-shaped bottles for the presentation!

At this point, the musicians began to play and everyone engaged in the figure 8 minuet.  Time stood still for all the happy cats until it was time to Swoosh back home.

Apologies

We never did have the Halloween party; our royal apologies for the same.  It's hard to believe it's already been almost a month since then.

The Prime Minister is very busy at work as they are short staffed right now and she has many more clients to work with than she usually does.  Consequently, she is usually more tired after work and does not stop somewhere to blog on the way home.  We live in the Dark Ages and don't have internet at home.  (That's another reason the PM doesn't post many pictures of me....)

The PM is still taking pictures of the cranes, although they are becoming increasingly rare as they migrate south for the winter.  Also, the castle got into quite bad shape over the summer while her pain was worse, so she is doing a lot of housekeeping.  Maybe by December holidays of various kinds she will have it ready to receive visitors.  Maybe for a menorah lighting?

Hope everyone is well; we still visit everyone, just don't always have time to comment.

Raincheck; word verification off

Due to the tremendous titan Sandy, we will host the Halloween party over the weekend.  Tunnel travel may still be treacherous right now.  We are crossing paws all allies and friends are safe.  And, we believe that word verification on comments is turned off.

Official News

The PM believes that she has fixed the issue with word verification on comments.  Allies and friends are asked to try to comment and see if it is easier now.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Princess Coco, busy at work!

Our Dear Heir has been very busy since her return home.  She has managed to find two guineau pigs to make up her hologram contraption assembly line.  They finished their training today and will begin assembling them on Monday.  She expects to have one finished by Friday next week.

For Halloween, what better than travelling out to the barn from my house?  Everyone can meet on Wednesday afternoon, try the contraption tunnel if they wish, or a regular tunnel if they don't, and we'll scare the dickens out of a few mice and voles......

Another picture

Since my last picture was received so graciously, I have decided to post another of my  favorites:

Well, the PM did a great job with this!  My Royal Apologies and I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Swoosh! Wee!

from the Princess' Diary:

Well, I can hardly believe it!  After multiple tests by the Quartermaster, General Boopsie, SAS Ringo and volunteer kitties from the courtyard, I have finally travelled via tunnel with hologram contraption!

It's really quite exhilarating.  I could do it every day that royal duties don't keep me at home.

First, I made a short hop to visit the Queen Bea (emeritus).  She was surprised to see me!  She is such a timid soul, I couldn't convince her the tunnel wouldn't eat her and that she would reassemble appropriately.  She also had a hard time believe the hologram left behind really could fool her Daddah.  But we had a nice reunion anyway.

Next, the Royal Court and I went to see the cranes, herons and egrets.  The PM and Ringer were not kidding--those things are huge!  They stand 4 to five feet tall.  If I swam, I would have been afraid they would catch me for lunch!  We also picnicked on Bald Bluff, which allows for good security.  It is amazing how fresh air can enhance your appetite.

The cranes have most graciously accepted Our offer of hunting rights within the Realm. However, they do note there are not many places for them to take off and land in the Realm due to the congestion provided by humans and vile automobiles.  Therefore, they will reserve the rights for emergency use only.  After seeing how much room they need for takeoff, it is understandable.

Coco the Adorable has returned to her regency and has stated she will start an assembly line to make contraptions so that any interested parties may acquire one.

The New Invention; a New Day for Catdom!

It's been very exciting around here; Princess Coco has come up with her invention and Quartermaster Scruffy bravely volunteered to test it.  He made 5 trips with it to assorted locations.  In each case, a wonderfully lifelike holagram was left.  It even moved some!

Quartermaster Scruffy states there is no sensation from the hologram and likens the business to having your picture or video taken while being transported.

Based on that, General Boopsie Bear also took a short trip through the tunnel.  He agrees that this contraption offers little, if any unpleasantness to the traveller.

Hmmm.....where do we go from here?

Princess Coco the Most Adorable, Scientist

Yes, we have had word from our adorable Princess and Heir, Coco.  She is, as always, full of exciting news for the Realm and its allies.

Most recently, she is adding the moniker 'scientist' to the list, which already includes Heir to the Throne and Chief Petticoat Officer of the USS Extra Helping.

She notes that she had been contemplating the difficulty some kitties have in escaping the overprotective clutches of their humans and how that can interfere with our many important plans.  To circumvent same humans, she has adapted the tunnel travel mechanism so that it leaves an opaque,  holographic image of the travelling kitty behind for the human's comfort.  She has beta tested it on mice, voles and sparrows to date with 100% effectiveness.

Think of the implications!  More frequent trips on the Extra Helpings! Higher attendance at Realm social events!  Calmer human attendants!  Who will be the first to give it a try?

Who? Moi?

Everyone who knows me knows I am a thoroughly American-Jewish Princess, right?

Mommeh was so funny this morning before she woke up!  She thought I was saying 'Moi!  Moi!' as if I were a French kitty and wanted attention!  I did want attention, but I was not speaking human French....

Recent Diplomatic Sorties

As has been announced previously, the PM and SAS Ringo have been making many junkets into the countryside and have made contact with many different species of animals and birds, including deer, cranes, herons, egrets and turkeys.  They have also had much contact with cricket-type, 'jumpy' bugs.

The cranes, ever vigilant and with an expansive senses of time compared to other species, have begun to accept their presence, sometimes dancing and calling for them.

This past weekend, they went out with Princess Coco the Most Adorable.  While out, they received a last minute invitation to observe a Council of the Crane Elders; approximately 20 cranes meeting about issues of state.  All three were allowed to stay in this august presence for approximately 10 minutes human time.  All three were naturally awestruck to be in the presence of such ancient knowledge as is held by this oldest living species of life as we know it.

After returning to The Annex, Princess Treasure contemplated their reports.  In return, she has sent offerings of hunting rights to The Realm; as cranes are omniverous, they do have an appetite for small game in common with felines.

All in the Realm await their reply with baited breath.

Long Weekend

Yes, we are having a long weekend here in the Realm.  The PM just had her anniversary and earned some more vacation time, so she decided to take off Monday and Tuesday.  She has been very fatigued and she hopes to both rest and catch up on some things around the house.

She also requested the time off for the High Holidays next month.  All three days fall on business days this year.

We are not sure exactly what all we will do, but will keep you updated.  Sir Spitfire's appt has been postponed until he recovers from his own traumatic event.

Appointment

Upon reading Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo's biography, Sir Spitfire has requested an appointment.  Sir Spitfire is hereby notified that the meeting will take place on Thursday afternoon and is hereby commanded to teleport over to the Annex at said time of 1pm.  Sir Spitfire should also send agenda via UPS prior to that for the Ambassador's review.

Lazy Day

We had a very lazy day today; the first one in quite a while what with trips to MS and photography outings by the PM and Ringo.  The Mommeh basically stayed in her chair all day, except for when she took a nap in bed.  Oh, well, better than being abandoned during diplomatic sorties.

The PM and Ringo do report a lot of diplomatic negotiations with various birds.  They say that some birds are my sized and I would really enjoy them.  They say others are big enough to eat me.  I'd just as soon leave any diplomacy up to them if that is the case!

Here is one they think I would like:

They tell me they don't think I would like this one; they also worry it would carry me away:

It does look pretty fierce.  But I think the first one may make a good 'pet', don't you?  After all, Daisy and Harley have Bert and Ernie.....

Ringo's biography

Little is known about Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo's childhood and early life.

The PM met Ringo the Racoon  the night she went to vote in the last Presidential elections.  Ringo was cunningly posed on top a parking meter; when he was still there a couple of hours later, the PM took him home and introduced him to the Princess.

Ringo related that he was skilled at acrobatics and had run away from his family in the woods to join the circus.  However, he had not been able to catch up with any of the circusses as they came through town and was unsure if he really wanted to any more.

Ringo at first served as Scout.  His first job was to help develop disaster planning; it was hoped the use of the dreaded automobile could be prevented by proper planning.  While this did not work out, as he worked with the PM on planning, she noted his skills at interacting with individuals from a variety of species and backgrounds.  He also was very sharp at noting environmental issues and navigated well.  Due to his talent at same, he was promoted to Sir Scout Ringo.

Later, the Princess decided he should be offered an ambassadorship.  Ringo then made the epic journey to Utah to treaty with Lady Scamper and Sir George (Ret) of the equine species.  The mission was successful; Ringo even survived encounters with wolves and scorpions; such adventures have become the stuff of legend.

Since that time, Ringo has served as primary diplomatic liason to the Realm of Capital Drive.  He goes out on all reconnaisance missions and treaty negotiations with the PM or individually, as ordered by the Princess.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who took time to let us know they care. We feel better now.  And since we read much more than we comment, we really can't complain.

The PM and Ringo have stayed busy with photography this weekend.  Since she got the new camera, the PM has been terribly excited about the pictures she has taken of different things.  It is good to see her so happy about something.

Here is another picture of me for your Sunday pleasure; tasting a tribute:

Feeling Better

Thank you for all the comments today after we told you how sad we were.  It brightened our day!  And we feel much better!

Nobody loves us

At least we don't think so, because we've not had one response to our last three posts.  We're sad here in the Realm.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our neice Nicole's birthday.  She will be 9 years old.  I have not met  her yet, but the PM has always said Nic-Nac is the 'most perfect baby in the world'.  She studies martial arts, ice skating and ballet.  She loves macaroni and cheese and pizza.  In fact, she loves pizza so much, she is only allowed to have it once or twice a week.  Otherwise she would not eat anything else.  She is going to overnight camp for the first time this summer.

Happy birthday, Nicole!

Sleepy Sunday

We have finally been having some rain this week; mostly at night.  We both just sleep through it.  Rain knocks the PM out.  She has a hard time staying awake during it.  And if she's not going to wake up with me when it thunders, I'll just cuddle closer to her.  The Countess maybe needs to take my advice.

When I was younger, one time I started howling one night at something outside the window.  I was inconsolable and thoroughly frightened.  I I even woke the PM up, but I learned not to go looking for scary things, but just to enjoy what is right around me.  Why look for trouble?

Post trip

The PM (aka Mommeh) and I have done some serious cuddling since she got back.  She gets home, out of her clothes and then we're in the recliner unless I take a quick peek outside.

Our neighbors were nice.  PM gave them the keys to her place and they checked on me a couple of times.  They made sure the a/c blew the right temperature and everything.  PM was disappointed that Dobby and the house elves did not visit, but I do not think she really expected them.

She and Ringo told me they went by the Sun Studios and Graceland in Memphis, as well as the Peabody--it has parading ducks--and the local hangout of the Green Bay Packers.  She said she liked the route she took.

I'm just glad she's home and things are back to normal.

A Sad Trip

The Mommeh and Ringo had a sad trip to make last week.  The Mommeh received word that her favorite uncle had died and she went to his funeral in Mississippi.  She says this is a very long way away from the Realm of Capitol Drive, so she took Ringo to help navigate.  She needed him, because she ended up taking different ways than she is used to.

She has not even been home yet, because she went straight to work.  She ESP'd me to let me know she would be home tonight.  I hope we get to cuddle a lot because I think she is sad.

Hot! Hot!

We have, with most of the country, been experiencing severe heat this past week.  While both the Princess and myself have at times triumphed over the heat without an air conditioner, the PM finds herself using it more and more often as we both ripen into a lovely maturity.  In fact, I have been leaving it on during the day when I am at fundraising so that the Princess does not become stressed by the heat.

She still insists on going out, but luckily we limit that mostly to the relatively cool AMs and the occasional late evenings after the sun has started setting.  So far, we haven't had any problems.  We keep our fingers and paws crossed for everyone else to handle the heat successfully.  And kitties, humans can also get really sick and die from the heat, so keep an eye on them!

Lazing around

I've been taking it easy since our expedition.  Laying in the sun, watching bird and squirrel TV; now that's the life!  It's good to have a break from the royal duties now and then.

The Ambassador and PM have been taking some trips into the surrounding country in order to maintain our relationships with the sandhill cranes and turkeys.  They have also seen deer, a turtle and a heron.

The PM is posting this on a break from fundraising, so she can't post a picture today.  Hopefully next time!

Just for CCL Wendy!

Thank you for nagging the PM into
taking some more pictures of me.

Here's one of our favorites from the latest batch.

Illuminating Fact!

HHHHMMMMMMMM.....an illuminating fact about me....

First, many thanks to Lady Audrey at Simba's Antics for choosing me.  This is my first award.

Hopefully the PM will learn how to pull the badge over to this site so I can show it off.

(Thanks Lady Audrey for the nomination and everyone else for telling my PM how to do this!)

When I was three months old and met the PM, I was the size of a teeny beanie baby from McDonald's.  But I was able to jump to the top of the refrigerator anyways.  Someone nicknamed me Slinky because I have springs for legs......

I would like to nominate

Emperor Maximus Wriggly Kitty Spittimus on 'I is Maximus Wriggly Kitty Spittimus'
Mario of 'Mario's Meowsings'
Percy of 'Adventures of Percy the Cat'
Harley on 'Daisy the Curly Cat' and
Dante on 'All about Lacocoon Dante'.

Zoom!

Although I may be 14, I don't always act my age.  Sometimes I let my furs down and zoom-zoom around the apartment.  I can turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change!

Housecleaning

The PM just realized she had several drafts and had not made a decision about what to do with them.  She posted three--one with a picture--and deleted the rest.  If they seem out of order, it's 'cuz they are!

(Apologies from the PM)

Reception Hour

as reported by Fannie Floof.

After the Security Council, a small, informal reception was held in the Princess Treasure's private drawing room.  All members of the Council, including new members Princess Coco and Sir Spitfire, were in attendance.  Simba, being considered for knighthood, was also in attendance.  At the reception, it was announced that further intelligence is being gathered on the security of the realm, no details were provided.

Always gracious and generous in manner, Princess Treasure greeted each attendee with a nose tap; Princess Coco the Adorable also received a head bonk.

Happy Days

First off, I wish to say 'Happy Thanksgiving' to everyone. I hope you all had a restful, yet exciting day full of family and fowl. In the Realm, we celebrated with a capon, which none of us had before. It was very good, although the PM complained about the $3/lb cost. You should have seen the size of the neckbone! That was my special treat.
We ended up having it yesterday as it did not thaw in time for Thursday.
The PM has a new computer and she is not totally comfortable with it yet. She has been uploading a lot of older pictures on it. We both like this one of me very much; well I was going to share one with you, but she says the computer is not cooperating.
Anyway, everything has been quiet lately. The PM is being a couch potato homebody. Her words, not mine. I have enjoyed this as it has meant some cuddling

Winter Days

This is me several years ago; Dante's Mommy said there are not enough pictures of me here, so I gave the PM a stern talking to. Here I am planning my attack on a string from the blinds, a girl must be ready to defend her honor at a moment's notice, you know!
The PM has been having a rough time; week before she had one client die, had to listen to another one call her a liar for an hour at a state hearing, had to listen to another one with dementia insult her when they were trying to get out of the program she works in and another one ended up in jail after beating up his caregiver.
She took Monday off for her birthday and had a nice lunch with a friend. She had a crabcake and brought some home to share. That was good.
The next day, she visited a client with a co-worker and fell when she was leaving their house. She went to the human vet and found out she had arthritis in her knee. The vet is not sure that is all that is wrong, so she has to use a cane for now. She did find one with pink roses--and it was even on sale--so it's not as bad as it could have been.
Needless to say, this throws a crimp in our plans. However, since I am bored and need something to preoccupy myself with, we are going to have a wedding for the Admiral and Nikita. Since they had the audacity to elope, none of us got to celebrate with them. So, Admiral and Nikita, next Sunday?
And Sir Spitfire, this is required attendance!
Maybe we can get much of the same crowd from the adoption and the summer picnic--and, of course, The Ladies of Autumn. So, Dante, Daisy, Harley, Mario, Simba, Audrey and Spitfire, are you ready to rock and roll?

Fourteen Years Old!

Yes, I am turning into a Grand Old Lady, despite being ever-youthful with a merry heart.

Since I was rescued from a shopping center parking lot, we don't know exactly when my birthday is.  However, I was gotchaed by the PM at the end of August and was about three months old at that time, so we celebrate for the whole weekend of Memorial Day!  We remember soldiers, too, who make it possible for us to have the peaceful, free life that we enjoy.

Home again, Home again

As you remember, the last time we heard from our little sortie, they were napping in sunpuddles after feasting at the picnic.  The SS Extra Helping had been scheduled to leave that night, but due to grogginess on the part of the crew, departure was delayed until the next morning.

That evening at dusk saw the appearance of a ragged remnant of the Acorn Liberation Front, attacking the birdfeeders in the Countess' TV.  A quick raid involving General Boopsie Bear, Agent Blackjack and our fearless Knights dispatched them summarily.  Their tails were taken as trophies and sailed as pennants from masts of our lovely ship.

Fires were lit and songs were composed in honor of our brave heroes.  Mario, who has a surprisingly deep bass, had the most courtly way with words and was summarily appointed Court Musician by Princess Treasure.  Congratulations, Mario!

The skies were full of shooting stars and Audrey could not resist trying to catch a few.  Eventually the flames turned into embers and conversation became quiet.

The next morning arrived with a glorious blue sky.  After a farewell Continental Breakfast of poached salmon garnished with pickled voles tails, we reluctantly bid good-bye to the loving and loyal Countess. Promises of future meetings were exchanged.  As a token of the journey, everyone was presented with a ruby paw-ring.

The wind was with our little crew and they speedily arrived back at the Realm of Capitol Drive.  Many citizens and allies, including several members of the Ladies of Autumn, were on hand to greet the Princesses with a round of 'For They are Jolly Good Royals' and cheers.  Mousepops were served to all present to commemorate the day.

Poop Deck Picnic

The next morning arrived bright, with a mild breeze.  All agreed it was a fine day to munch on frogs legs during a poop deck picnic.  Dante and Sir Spitfire (who has secretly pledged to reform his ways) accompanied the Princess Coco to the yacht to snoopervise the firing up of the grill.  Mario accompanied them, promising a special marinade and sauce for the legs.

While all three were assisting in these chores, Princess Coco consulted with First Mate Cheezit and Quartermaster Scruffy.  There had been no sightings of nefarious dogs.  Revolting squirrels had wisely avoided the perimeter of the Realm of The Glen.  Today's weather offered smooth sailing, if Princess Treasure were to decide to cast off.

Soon, all were gathered on the deck partaking of this fine, but casual repast; HRH the Princess Treasure had cast so much formality aside that she even picked up a leg with her claws!  When silence fell across the group at this, she noted how close she felt to everyone and that she hoped everyone would put aside court manners for the afternoon.  After a short, stunned silence, a cheer erupted.  Hats were tossed in the air and Spitty was seen chasing Audrey around the stern.

The meal completed, and formal attire set aside, everyone found their favorite sunpuddle and settled down to let lunch digest.

The Glen

Certainly Katie Isabella could not have chosen a lovelier location than the Glen for our dinner that night!  This magical copse in the woods near her castle delicately allowed streamers of sunset light to color the atmosphere, rays bouncing off the multi-colored wildflowers.  Hummingbirds, wrens, finches and other birds provided a living, darting ceiling of color and song.  Lovely yellow butterflies and blue ones drifted from flower to flower.

Never has such comfort been experienced as on the dandelion-fluff filled quilts.  The table settings were impeccable, since peridot is flattering to any kitty, as is known the world over.  Roasted leg of vole and breast of dove were delectable, perhaps even more so due to the splendor of the setting and grace of the service.

Special mention must be made of the favors-the delightful gold castings of Bas made from Egyptian-era molds.  So lifelike, so real, and so much in the image of Princess Treasure, further proof of her nobility.

After a gracious and modest welcome to The Land of The Glen, the Countess heard the proclamation written by Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo and denounced by Dante.  It notes her to be a worthy heir to the Admiral and a Southern lady replete with all feline social graces.  She gently accepted a continuance of the alliance formed with the Admiral and expressed her gratitude for the favors extended to her by all to date.

Following this, the Countess led all on a tour of her governance, including the Glen, th e neighboring meadow policed by Agent Blackjack and her castle, including the new cat tree she has been gifted with.  All found a place to snuggle so the night hours could be wiled away counting hummingbirds.

Introductions

After the frog hunt, it was time to prepare for meeting the Countess who is the reason for our voyage.  All went below deck to groom furs and to prepare evening finery.

The crew weighed anchor at the end of Frogamore Creek, just a few feet from land.  Dingys were prepared for lowering into the water.  Finally, the entourage was on deck.

In the first boat went Mario, Dante, Agent Blackjack and General Boopsie Bear.  Upon arrival at the landing, Mario and Dante, in ceremonial moss green sashes, pulled their kazoos and let forth a peal of blasts to announce the Princess' arrival.  Agent Blackjack and General Boopsie Bear, both in dress military uniform, made a ceremonial turn around the landing with penants in hand.

The second boat bore Sirs Spitfire and Simba with Lady Audrey.  Upon landing, and after assisting Lady Audrey to land, Sirs Simba and Spitfire bore standards to the far end of the landing.  Both were most dashing in the court helmets of bronze accented by chrysomalechite.  Lady Audrey paraded down the landing in a teal gown, wearing a collar of iolite.  She tossed daisy petals in her wake.

The final boat carried Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo wearing all medals on his formal evening attire.  Princess Coco was innocence herself in pink dotted swiss and her beloved moonstone collar.  Princess Treasure appeared regal in gold brocade adorned with pearls.

As the boat was tied to dock, Countess Isabella, resplendent in red, awaited at attention at the entrance to the landing.  Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo handed up both Princesses, who paraded down the runway arm in arm.  Upon reaching the halfway mark, they paused to allow the Countess to approach them.  As she did, Sir Ringo read from the family tree to demonstrate the Countess' membership in the Sphynx Clan and cousinship to the Princesses.  Finally, Princess Coco presented the Countess with a garnet drop collar as a momento of the occasion while Princess Treasure graciously received the Countess' curtsey.  Hurrahs burst forth from all attendants as Princess Treasure bestowed a nose tap on the Countess.

With this, it was onto the banquet prepared most ably by Countess Katie and her able staff.

Frogs a-hopping

Hello, this is Maxie Manx reporting the results of the frog catching contest held in Frogamore Creek this afternoon.

It was an exciting day held in perfect conditions for such a contest; the air was dry, but the recent rains left plenty of mud to track the frogs.  Indeed, the mud was sticky enough to trap some frogs, adding a slight fillip to the proceedings.

Signed up for the race were both Knights, Mario, Dante and Lady Audrey.  Lady Audrey was in the number one position at the Gate, extending out were Mario, Sir Spitfire, Dante and Sir Simba.  The bell was rung by Princess Coco and they were off!

In the lead was Mario, followed closely by Lady Audrey and Dante  Sirs Simba and Spitfire appear to be a bit weighted down by their gear.  We shall see if they can turn this into an advantage.

At the first turn Lady Audrey spots a frog and takes it down handily.  Dante finds the head of the clan, a fine looking specimen, and takes off after it.  Mario does a two for one, bringing first one down, then somersaulting to catch a second one in pre-hop position.

Sir Spitfire finds a frog hiding in the end of a log and uses the tip of his sword to flip it into the air before catching it on the end of same sword. Not to be outdone, Sir Simba racks up three frogs on the same arrow, an amazing feat of archery.

Now they are all past the halfway point.    Sir Spitfire appears to be reforming and focusses his energy on using his mace to stun a half-dozen frogs before scooping them into his creel--he just avoided landing in the soup that time!  Sir Simba continues to bring in frogs with each arrow.  Mario repeats his two for one while Lady Audrey brings down a sweet trio with a tail flick sweet to behold.  And finally, Dante continues to bring down the jumbo sized delights that may be too much for the others to handle.

They've all passed the finish line now and it is time for the judges to assess the catch.

Results are being announced now:  Lady Audrey wins best maneuver for the invention of her tidy little tail flick good for three frogs.  Mario's two for one somersault wins steadiest maneuver for his consistent results.  Dante wins for heaviest catch recorded while Sir Simba receives the Finn McCool medal for archery.  But our champion is Sir Spitfire for risking wet toes in bringing down 6 frogs simultaneously.

Here ye! Here ye!

HRH Princess Coco's voyage had been proceeding expeditiously but with all innate feline reserve about water.

Agent Blackjack continues to wear his wellies, the aqua color of which does set off his black furs enticingly.  He has been conferring with General Boopsie Bear regarding the status of the Acorn Liberation Front, to which General had sent much support when revolution broke out several years ago.  Agent Blackjack has been able to report that most cells have been forcibly disbanded and 8 of 10 ringleaders apprehended.

Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo has been preparing a proclamation to be read upon arrival.

Sirs Spitfire and Simba have been running drills with Quartermaster Scruffy to ensure they will be 'in synch' during ritual maneuvers and quick to draw their swords if needed to protect Their Royal Highnesses.

Lady Audrey, Mario and Dante have been indulging in some cat piles and have been joined by everyone during their breaks.

Princess Treasure has had a private audience with each person on board, from the lowest matey to swab the decks to HRH Princess Coco the Most Adorable.  She had heard cases and made the wise, judicious decisions for which she has become legendary. She has also received pleasing tribute.

After travelling through Happylands and Happenstance via the River Misstep, the ship has now turned the (tributary corner) to the Pecan Delta and is proceeding up the Frogamore Creek.  It is expected they will land at Countess Katie Isabella's pier at sundown tonight.  This afternoon's entertainment will be a contest to see who can catch the most frogs for the creek with a planned frogslegs luncheon upon the yacht tomorrow.

News of the Countess' plans for our arrival sound most auspicious!

Sailing, Sailing.....

From the Princess Treasure's Diary:

Finally we are off!  I have really been so intrigued by the reports of I have heard of the Countess' vivacity that it is good to be on the way.  It is too bad our start was delayed by bad weather.

Sir Spitfire seems to have forgotten any military discipline he knows; it is amazing that a rookie like Sir Simba is setting the better example.  What shall We do with our Spitty?  Lord knows he is entertaining enough.  However, I will not have Coco subjected to such blatant flirtation.

Now, Mario, Simba and Dante, there are some fine gentlemen.....Simba has learned when he can go that extra bit (like stealing the kiss from Queen Miss Catt), Mario's bashfullness ensures appropriate behavior and Dante has a naturally regal and reserved personality.  We are very satisfied and amused by their genteel ways.

Lady Audrey is a most pleasant companion and has helped to while away the hours when we were in drydock yesterday.

The Countess has asked if she should row out to meet us; I think it better that we proceed the way planned and have the first meeting on land.  It would be a shame if she also succumbed to seasickness!

Through Happylands and passing through Happenstance now.  I am glad Coco could plan a rout to avoid the Hinterlands.  The Misstep River is pleasant this time of year.

Rough Sailing

From the CPO's log:

Embarkation at 1830 pm, passengers consisting of HRH Princess Treasure, Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo, General Boopsie Bear, Sir Simba and Audrey, Sir Spitfire, Mario and Dante.

Dinner served 1900 pm to high compliments forthwith forwarded to the Chef.

Thunderbooms arrive at 2020pm.  Exchanged evening attire for Red Paw hat and provided solace to all passengers afflicted with seasickness.  Mario very helpful and solicitous to all.  Sir Spitfire probably the most miserable.

Departure delayed until 1200 Noon tomorrow.

And They're Off!

Frannie Floof here reporting on last night's bon voyage to Princess Treasure and all other travellers on the SS Extra Helping.  As previously noted, Princess Coco the Most Adorable, being Chief Petticoat Officer of the yacht, has been able to bring it out of retirement and a royal expedition is being made to provide official Royal Greetings and Welcomes to the Countess Kathryn Isabella, another member of the august Sphynx Clan.

Princess Coco's arrival was greeted by Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo, General Boopsie Bear, Sir Spitfire (with feather sadly drooping following unauthorized festivities--where is your impulse control, Spitty?), Sir Simba and Lady Audrey, Mario and the Prime Minister.  She was escorted off the yacht while the crew was joined by maintenance and catering workers from teh Realm to prepare her for the voyage.

All were greeted by the Princess Treasure, gracefully ensconced on the new throne.  Minions passed quail egg benedict and catnip sodas to all.  A Proclamation declaring May 15th to be 'New Vistas' day was read.  During this time, Dante arrived and was greeted warmly by all.

After several minutes of the figure 8 minuet and a new rendering of 'Nip for Two' prepared by Sir Simba and Lady Audrey, all proceeded to the vessel where an attentive crew showed each person to their quarters.

Later that night, all feasted on hummingbird's tongue salad, roasted shrew brisket and catnip tarts.  Niptinis were passed under the clear, starry sky.

Anxiously awaiting further developments!

Princess Coco's Arrival

The Prime Minister has just received word that the SS Extra Helping has docked at the pier; anchor has been weighed.  All maintenance staff has reported to duty to prepare the yacht to carry HRH Princess Treasure.

Princess Coco the Most Adorable lived up to her name in a white on white embroidered dimity dress and her favorite moonstone collar.  She was ably assisted by Agent Blackjack, that jack of all trades, who looked smart in his aqua wellingtons as he is most plagued by pneumonia from toe-dampness.

We have received word from Sir Spitfire that he will be reporting for duty and from Mario, Sir Simba and Lady Audrey that they will be able to attend.

Let the festivities commence!

Chief Petticoat Officer!

We have received the most exciting communication from Princess Coco the Most Adorable; we had all been feeling bereft of the Admiral's presence and were saddened to think that our voyaging days were over.  Imagine our pleasure at receiving the following transmission:

Dear Princess Treasure et al,

I wanted you to know why I have not redeemed my ticket from Heron Express.  The Admiral and I had been preparing a surprise for you and I have been able to finish it on my own:  I am the Chief Petticoat Officer for the HRM SS. Extra Helping!  We will be able to continue all naval adventures and peace-time cruises.  Because of this, I am suggesting that we cruise down to visit the Countess Katie Isabella rather than all convening near her house.  I'm betting Simba and Audrey will be happy to join us, although I am not so sure about Sir Spitfire.

Have you considered Sir Simba?

Yours,
Princess Coco

Planning an Expedition

Me, myself and I, HRH the Princess Treasure of the Precious Dynasty in the Sphinx Clan, feel the need of new vistas and horizons.  Thus I do declare May to be a Month of Adventures for all.

Sir Spitfire is hereby commanded back to the Realm for duty, being sure to bring all battle and court gear with him.  Princess Coco the Most Adorable, your ticket is awaiting you at the Heron Express counter.   We must soon be on our way to greet the Countess Katie Isabella.  Is anyone else up for a trip?

A New Throne and other news.....

The PM took the week off from fund-raising this week (atlthough she says we will still get our paycheck...something called 'paid vacation') and has been working on the annex.  You may remember she started doing this last year before she abandoned me to have
'emergency surgery' last year and she says it has been one thing after another since then.  Yes, so she says!

Anyhow, she has been working on cleaning, organizing and decorating the annex (we no longer live on Capitol Drive, but on the border to the Realm and the Queen Bea Emeritus' land so we can watch over both) like a busy little beaver.  She also had to take care of an emergency.  Two of the tires on the Royal Carriage were slashed Monday night.  One so bad it was completely flat and the other bad enough it had to be replaced.  She also needed a spare, never getting one like she planned over the winter.

Luckily, her state income tax had come in, so she had money for all that and **A New Throne**--after consulting with Knight Errant Sir Honder--this week.  She said the throne is actually a small recliner so that she will be more comfortable with her arthritis and fibro, but I know she really purchased it for ME!  She also says she got it so there will be enough sitting room if she has company, but she so seldom has company, I can't believe she would shell out alot of green papers for that reason.

What is really weird is that it is 'new' as opposed to 'resale' or 'rummage'.  She has always said she would not buy new upholstered furniture so she would not get upset when my predecessor and I scratched.  I don't know what changed her mind this time and I have not decided if the throne is an appropriate target for scratching, we will see.

The PM also finally got a matte cut for a piece of antique fabric and a frame she found for it.  She bought the fabric when she was preparing for the bat mitzvah as it has cranes on it.  But she liked it so much, she didn't want to cut it up, so framed it instead.

Her colors for the redecoratin are rose, cream and brown, which she saw in a magazine.  She thinks it is feminine without being fussy, and more modern than a regular pink.

The only major part of the living room left is a throw to cover the ottoman/coffee table and covering the pillows.  That she will take her time with as she finds fabrics she likes.  Those will be the icing on the cake, she says.  She also has another painting to hang, but she says the worst part of doing the living room is over with.

Today she starts on the bathroom; sewing the trim on the towels and putting everything out/up in the bathroom.  Now that room will be decorated in hot pink and bright green as she thinks that will be a cheerful place to wake up in in the morning.  We shall see.  I am reserving judgement.

I will order her to take some pictures when she is done.

In other news, she has been trying to have some fun as well; she has gone to some new restaurants and some old favorites this week.  She tried Peruvian food for the first time and loved it.  She said she was surprised when she found out later that it uses cumin and cilantro as those are not her favorite spices; apparently they are toned down by the garlic and soy sauce.  She also thought it was interesting that they serve the main dish over french fries with rice on the side.  Her waiter explained that potatoes are very basic to the cuisine, but that soy sauce and rice became part of it when people from China moved to Peru in the 1800s.

She also tried Vietnamese food, and was disappointed, it was very like Chinese.  She will try another Vietnamese restaurant to see if this holds true.

Other than that, she has been to a few 'old favorite' restaurants for pizza and soul food and slept and read a few books.  She also started swimming again and found a new swimsuit yesterday at Target.  It is a two piece and she has wanted a two piece for quite a while.

Me, I have been going outside in the morning and evening and observing all her busyness, knowing that when this is all done she will be happy and that we can then welcome all our Royal Court, the Ladies of Autumn and our newest ally, the Countess Katie Isabella.

A Breath of Fresh Air

It may be that a new wind is blowing through the Realm.  The Prime Minister has seen her special MD and he has changed her medication.  She got the new pills yesterday and already feels better.  She has  used these pills in the past and they helped then, so we both believe they will help now.

And there is so much to do!  We have not officially welcomed Miss Katie Isabella yet.  And Sir Spitfire needs monitoring.  Diplomatic relations need to be refreshed.  And, do we want to enlarge the Royal Court?

It's amazing what a little seratonin will do to a human!

The Study Committee and Spitty

When Sir Spitfire noted that he had been named 'king' by another feline, Princess Treasure appointed a study committee to search the archives and advise her as to any history or traditions regarding the use of honorifics by members of the Sphinx Clan.

After painstakingly combing the archives, they note the following:

The use of honorifics and titles in the feline world is rooted in obscurity. References in history of the Precious Dynasty do mention Kings and Queens. However, linguists now realize that, even then, in close to source documents, that human transcription caused a number of errors to be passed down through the centuries. Such effect on our later actions and what we attribute to tradition and history must be viewed with caution.

The oldest document extant is the memoir of Slinky, a personal secretary to Princess Shaup. References in this document include the titles 'queen' and 'princess'. However, it is significant to note that felines have long realized that only those who have undergone the Traumatic Event will have adequate time to prepare for the heavy burden of monarchy. To that end, a 'queen' appears to refer to mother cats and 'princess' to those who sit on the throne.

In terms of mancats, we note the peculiar absence of the word 'king' from all first century records. This appears to reflect the matrilineal descent in feline culture. 'king' would imply fatherhood, and we know this is difficult at best to monitor and prove. To that end, a 'Prince' is a mancat companion of royal blood and 'Gentleman Consort' is one not of royal stock.

In acknowledgement of the above, and remembering the sometimes lighthearted, playful nature of our knight, Princess Treasure does not plan any expressions of royal displeasure. She does, however, express concern that Spitfire may forget the sacred duties he committed himself to on that very special day. Quartermaster Scruffy has been assigned the task of monitoring Spitfire's actions and reporting on Spitfire's performance.

Depression

The Prime Minister here; I want to apologize for my lack of communication over the winter.

I have been treated for depression for about 5 years after a severe episode. My psychiatrist and I had found a good med combination of two pills; celexa at 60mg daily and wellbutrin. Last year, the FDA came out with a recomendation that people not take more than 40 mg of celexa day. My psychiatrist accordingly reduced my dose.

Since then, in addition to the fall and respiratory infection, I have been struggling with increased depressive symptoms and fibromyalgia pain/fatigue. While I am in no danger of doing something I should not, I have having increasing difficulty taking care of my minimum requirements at my job and maintaining my household.

Another thing that happens is that my creative voice gets gagged. I have had several ideas for storylines, but cannot get them down. I am not painting and doing assemblages, etc. I am not going out as much. Those of you who know how much Judaism and my congregation mean to me will realize how bad this is when I say I have not been to synagogue since the High Holidays back in September.

So, know that I continue to follow all of the blogs of beings I have come to know and love. But responding and posting is overwhelming right now and may remain so until I can find a new regime with my doctor. Thank you for your patience and hopefully I will be back soon.

Hibernation

We are so sorry to have been absent from blogspot for so long; the PM has been having a rough winter between med changes, falls and, most recently, a 'killer' respiratory infection. We have been following the updates of those we know and love, but have not been up to doing much posting ourselves. We hope to be back with all of you soon.
