Super Surprises!

Yesterday, Penny the Miracle Worker came to start doing her stuff.  The castle looks 1000% better already; Penny can sweep better than the PM can mop!  She will finish on Wednesday.  We are really enjoying the change already.  There is still stuff do do around the place, but it is easier stuff to do that maybe the PM can do.

In even more exciting news, the PM returned a call from Sir Knight Errant Honder.  He, Lady Jen, and the Most Perfect Sisters In The World, Nicole and Allison, may come up and spend Sat and Sun of the last weekend of this month with Us!  This is so very exciting; the first time it will happen.  Huzzahs abound throughout the kingdom!  The PM is already planning the itinerary.

Frantic February

...is finally over!  That was a month of mishaps and mayhem.  I haven't even discussed them all with you, kittehs!

Hopefully the new month, with the arrival of spring, will be calmer.  The PM is receiving some extra financial advice from Sir Knight Errant Honder to ensure that the fundraising and budgeting goes smoothly.  We are hoping that the worst of the snow is behind us.  The PM is also having Penny the Miracle Worker come over and help get the castle back into an appropriate shape for a princess, as the PM has not felt up to it over the winter.  That should happen on Wednesday.

The PM is so silly; her work was called off on Wednesday due to bad snows, so what does she do?  Go to the lakefront and take pictures of seagulls in the blizzard!

Excitement, dismay and confusion

Certainly not the way a Princess of the Sphynx Clan likes her Realm to be run!  Not at all!

Things started going downhill when the TV broke!  One Monday morning a couple of weeks ago, the PM went to turn it on as she always does to get the weather report.  It blinked a green blink and that was it!  It was dedded!

The PM depended on the TV more than she knows to keep her going and organized; she uses it as a cue for whatever she does around the house.  So, she doesn't know when to come or go or anything.  She's left early for work and late for work.  She's come home early and late.  She feeds me at different times.  It's a mess.

To top it all off, now that she doesn't have the TV to stare at, she's constantly on her 'tablet' computer reading or playing games.  Then I don't get as many pets as I would when there was a TV.

The PM's brother, Sir Knight Errant Honder, stated he may be able to help with the problem; they have been thinking about replacing one of their's and may provide it to us for our use.  If not, I will have to put my paw down and insist she go shopping for a new one!

Thursday, the PM got a call that a human vet could see her Friday about her teeth; she got 9 (count them, 9!) pulled Friday morning.  They gave her 'laughing gas' (would have liked to see that!) and later she had valium and oxycodone to take.  I had to dig out my nurses hat and check on her regularly!  I was tired afterwards!

Next week, we will have someone come and do a spring cleaning of the house to get rid of cobwebs and my furs where they collect all over the place.  Yay!

Let it Snow!

Today we woke up to snow having fallen overnight and it has continued snowing most of the day.  They say it will continue to snow tonight as well.  Snowflakes all over the place!

I really don't care one way or another; when I see snow on the ground, I just snuggle in for a nap.  Unfortunately the poor PM must continue fund raising and be out in the nasty stuffs.  Sometimes, crazy human that she is, she goes out in it when she does not have to.

Snow usually means it is cold outside.  One day last week, the PM ran to the car in the morning to go to work; she was not wearing a coat.  She thought something was wrong with her defrost because it was taking forever to melt the frost on the window.  She finally pulled over to wait for it; suddenly, the defrost kicked in and it was melting everything!

The PM has to walk two blocks from parking to office and noticed how nippy the tips of her fingers and nose felt.  When she got to the office and was talking with her supervisor, it turned out it was '25 below with the windchill' and here she was running around without a coat on.  (Although, she does say that she wore her coat from the parking lot to the office.....hmmmm.....do we believe her?)

Today, someone in the office was selling handmade woolen mittens for a worthy cause and she bought a pair.  Hopefully she won't lose them like she did the last pair at $25/per......

Hibernation!

Well, the PM finally had the heat cut on after Christmas.  And this past week, it has been so cold that she has turned up the heat twice!  It's  nice and toasty to sit in front of and warm enough I don't even have to toe-tuck!

I did slip past her to get outside one morning, but it was so cold, I just made a little circle and slipped back in.  Didn't wait to see if any courtiers were in attendance or anything.

Mommeh does not take her camera with her and tends to come straight home from work cuz she doesn't like being out in this weather, either.

So, if we aren't around as much, that's why....it's just too durn cold to do anything, pardon the language!

However, the PM has had a cortisone injection in her knee and has a new anti-inflamatory and feels much better, thank you very much.  She is eagerly anticipating photography season while crocheting a new scarf to keep her warm.

Happy Hanukat!

Princess Treasure was very excited!  Hanukah is her favorite holiday!  When she was about 6 years old, the Prime Minister lit a menorah for the first time and Princess Treasure was able to show the PM how much she loved the candlelight and blessings.

'Menorah' is a Hebrew name among humans for the seven-branched candleabra used in the Temple.  The ones used for Hanukah are called 'hanukiah' (singular) or 'hanukiot' (plural).  However, the Royal Menorah is a Hanukat:

In real life it is purple with a pink polka-dotted bowtie.

Messengers had been sent out earlier to all friends and allies of the Realm; accompanying the invitations were the initial batch of contraptions that can connect to either an ess or a tunnel.  Her invitations went out later than she expected, so she hoped that some kitties who may not otherwise be able to come would utilize the contraption so they can leave their holographic image and not worry their humans.

Princess Treasure had prepared a special menu of delightful tidbits with the help of the chef:  Mouse sausage biscuits with green pea gravy, pickled hummingbird tongues, sauted filet of minnows were all carefully being plated at this moment.  With catnip tea and whipped cream for dessert, she hoped her guests would be content.

Princess Coco the Most Adorable arrived the day before in order to help decorate.  She had prepared Stars of David woven from dried catmint and hung a garland of them around the archway between the living room and kitchen.  Quartermaster Scruffy helped by driving in the nails needed.

Ringo had helped make little gifts for everyone and was certain he had hit on a winner.  More of that later.

General Boopsie Bear had a big responsibility.  He had to accompany his cousin Hannah the Hannukah Bear from Israel to the Realm.  Hannah is an essential part of any animal's Hannukah celebration and arrangements had been made for her personal appearance months earlier.

The PM had set up all the menorahs in the Castle so that any kitty who may want a chance to light a menorah could.  She also ensured there were enough candles available as each menorah needs 9 candles on the last night.  There is one candle for each night and a helper candle, called a shamash, who lights the others.  That can add up to a lot of candles!

Sunset had arrived and three stars were present in the sky.  Before the celebration could begin, all members of the household gathered for havdalah to usher out the Shabbat Queen.  Only then could any other candles be lit.

Swoosh, zing!  Kitties started arriving!  First was Sir  Simba and Lady Audrey, each looking festive in blue sequined sashes.  After the obligatory curtsey to the Princesses, they trotted off to inspect the Hannukat.  Sir Spitfire  soon zipped up in his Furrari, dashing and daredevilish as ever in his red knight accoutrement.  Daisy arrived wearing a kippah (yarmulke) embroidered with candles and Harley wore a silver collar that reflected all the colors around him.  Mario arrived in his customary bowtie and Dante was bundled up in his deer costume...he needed the warmth, coming from way up north of the Realm.  Countess Katie Isabella was resplendent in emerald green.

At the same time, the rest of the castle household was gathering to welcome the arrivals.  Quartermaster Scruffy took coats while the PM offered catnip tea. Ringo gathered everyone in the living room in time for Mario to sing 'I have a little driedl'.

Suddenly all the light were extinguished and a gasp was heard!  Several suspenseful seconds later, the General arrived, cousin Hannah on his arm.  Hannah carried the 'master shamash', lit in Israel.  This is very important, as animals do not have opposable thumbs and cannot light a match in one hand to start a candle burning in the other.  However, they can hold one candle between their paws and light it from the master.  Each cat approached with their own shamash and as each was lit, they lined up before their chosen menorah.

Princess Coco then led the assembly in the traditional blessings.  Each cat lifted its candle and lit the 8 candles on their menorah.  Everyone stepped back for a few minutes, watching the warm glow of the gathered menorahs, an entrancing sight.

After everyone had passed through the buffet, and appetites were satisfied, Sir Ambassador Scout Ringo presented the gifts of catnip wine he had made earlier in the year.  This clever gentleman actually found little cat-shaped bottles for the presentation!

At this point, the musicians began to play and everyone engaged in the figure 8 minuet.  Time stood still for all the happy cats until it was time to Swoosh back home.

Apologies

We never did have the Halloween party; our royal apologies for the same.  It's hard to believe it's already been almost a month since then.

The Prime Minister is very busy at work as they are short staffed right now and she has many more clients to work with than she usually does.  Consequently, she is usually more tired after work and does not stop somewhere to blog on the way home.  We live in the Dark Ages and don't have internet at home.  (That's another reason the PM doesn't post many pictures of me....)

The PM is still taking pictures of the cranes, although they are becoming increasingly rare as they migrate south for the winter.  Also, the castle got into quite bad shape over the summer while her pain was worse, so she is doing a lot of housekeeping.  Maybe by December holidays of various kinds she will have it ready to receive visitors.  Maybe for a menorah lighting?

Hope everyone is well; we still visit everyone, just don't always have time to comment.
